Pests can be found in almost every household at some point in time. Despite all our best efforts for pest control, pests do somehow manage to sneak into our homes and cause much damage. While there are many kinds of pests that can be seen in a house, one of the common pests can be said to be Carpet Bugs. Bugs infesting carpets are often the most difficult to pin-point and eliminate. There are many kinds of bugs that can be found infesting carpets in homes. In addition to homes, these bugs can also be found in warehouses, museums and various other buildings.
While Carpet Bugs feed on carpets, they also have varied other tastes as well. Bugs that are found in carpets are commonly referred to as carpet beetles. Such carpet beetles can be of two basic varieties – varied carpet beetle and black carpet beetle. As these beetles feed on any kind of organic material, they can infest carpets, hair of pets, human hair, leather, wool, grain and clothes. Anything that has an organic content is targeted by these beetles. These beetles usually enter the home from any crevice or crack that they can find in a home. Once inside the home, they feed on any and every organic material within their reach. Laying eggs and reproducing, these beetles have been known to have caused much damage over time.
Carpet Bugs generally target furniture, carpets and upholstery. As these beetles do not remain in a particular place for long, addressing the issue of infestation can be quite a tiresome exercise. Moving around and gradually multiplying, these bugs are more often identified with the damage caused than on account of their large numbers. Some of the common places where one can check for infestation include – under-side of carpets and rugs, in and around baseboards, in closets and in upholstered furniture. Treating Carpet Bugs requires some amount of patience as the treatment has to be repeated for a number of times to completely get rid of the beetles. Any pest control measure kills adult beetles and larva, while pupa and eggs go virtually unharmed. Safeguarded by their protective encasing, pupa and eggs are usually unaffected by any pest control treatment. It is for this reason that any pest control measure to get rid of bugs in the carpet has to be repeated many times for best results. |
